A few more of my time-sinkers are Facebook and Scrabulous. My vocabulary and pattern recognition is so poor though, I’m getting beaten to smithereens. I have to look up so many words. But it is paying off. I know so many new words now, it’s incredible. Did you know that QAT is a valid word? What a handy word for Scrabble! Every now and then when my brain refuses to work anymore, I am ashamed to admit that I cheat…online.
I didn’t even know such things existed. The strange thing I’m finding though, as at school, when daring to write out a tiny cheat cheat, I end up learning the material anyway. One cheat is that you can mimic the setup of your exact game and the program will figure out the best words for you. But how very tedious. I’d rather loose than bore myself to that extent. What is handy though, are word lists that I can just scan through, seeing if anything jumps out at me.
Anyway on one of my cheat surfs, I came across Confessions of an Online Scrabble Cheat. How very humorous and true!
LOL, I just shove letters together and hope that the word is valid.
But you play so well, Jenty! I’m learning there are very definite strategies to the game (no wonder my Dad used to beat me hands-down. He probably knew all that stuff already). I’ve never used so many 2 letter words before!
[...] 17, 2008 by natzgal Seems “Scrabble Cheat” is bringing people to my blog from this post, via search engines. How funny is that! Blog stats really are cool, aren’t [...]
I was surfing in search of real cheating stories to add to my blog.
Seeing that you are a new comer to the scrabble scene. My advice is to first memorize the useless 2-4 letter words. There is only about five thousand of them. You can then advance and have a look at a stupid three inch thick word list of all allowed words up to 9 letters.
I stumbled again on your blog via Google, only to find my old 2008 message above.
I believe I was only joking then. All you need to play at a reasonable level is all 2 letter words, most 3 letter words and some 4 letter words.
Your memory might refuse to accept some, or play tricks with wrong words, but eventually your scrabble prowess would develop. These short words are really essential for the ability to “hook” bonus words.
There is a strong element of luck in the game. You can sometimes beat the most skilled players, but you would not be able to beat the the stealthy cheats who return unwanted tiles while replenishing their racks.
